International beverage chain Smoothie King is planning to expand its San Antonio-area footprint, according to a recently submitted permit application.

Seeking permission to construct a new outpost in the Alamo City at 21038 US Hwy 281 #105 — near establishments such as Chick-fil-A, La Fitness, and Summer Moon Coffee — should the growth effort continue as planned, the location will mark the city’s 17th shop.

What Now San Antonio contacted the outpost’s franchisee, Thomas Nguyen, to inquire about the expansion, but he could not provide additional information before publication.

Nevertheless, the filing offers further insight.

Described as the interior finish-out of an existing 1,427-square-foot space — scheduled to begin on August 1, 2024, and be completed on November 20, 2024 — the project will cost an estimated $150,000 in total.

For readers who are unfamiliar with the chain, the business offers a brief description of its value system on its website: “All Smoothie King locations adhere to the brand’s Clean Blends Promise, which prioritizes great-tasting smoothies with more whole fruits and vegetables while removing artificial flavors, colors preservatives, and added sugars in many of its blends. This commitment to blend a more nutritious smoothie from the bottom of the cup up is exemplified by Smoothie King’s strict ‘No-No List’ of ingredients prohibited from entering blends.”

An opening date has not been announced. Follow Smoothie King on Facebook for updates.
