According to a recently submitted permit application, the barbecue restaurant and butcher shop Klein Smokehaus in Boerne is planning to construct additional space for food processing.
Located at 347 N Main Street, the restaurant is neighbored by establishments such as Jefferson Bank, Platinum Brix Winery, and Red Crest Pet Shop.
What Now San Antonio reached out to the concept’s co-owner, Colton Sells, to learn more about the business; however, he could not provide additional information before publication.
Nevertheless, the filing reveals that construction of the additional 1,740-square-foot space is scheduled to begin on March 1, 2026, and to be completed on August 1. For an estimated $60,000, the project will be carried out by local firm AP Architects.
For readers who are unfamiliar with the history of the business, a statement on the Klein Smokehouse website offers a brief introduction: “Our story began on July 4, 1950, when the Waldeck Family purchased the building at 342 North Main Street and opened a family grocery store. By 1976, the family-owned grocery store was going the way of many family farms. They downsized the grocery business and decided to focus on the one area they knew they could do better than the bigger stores – top-notch meats and sausages – and Farmers Meat Market was born.”
Today, the business is owned by Sells, who inherited it from his father, who purchased it in 2006.
On the menu are barbecue classics such as oak-smoked brisket, turkey, ribs, sausage, pulled pork, and chicken, served by the plate, by the pound, or on a sandwich; sides include homemade coleslaw, broccoli salad, and pinto beans.
How construction will affect the business’s hours of operation has not yet been made clear. Follow What Now San Antonio on Facebook for updates.
