Japanese cuisine-inspired sandwich joint Krazy Katsu is expanding in San Antonio — planning to open a second outpost at 9390 Huebner Road, Suite 101, according to recent announcements on the eatery’s Instagram and Facebook pages.
Owner Jessica Gonyea confirms the news and tells What Now San Antonio, “We’ve always had a plan to expand… This new space kind of fell into our lap,” adding that she believes the area is “booming with potential.”
According to Gonyea, Krazy Katsu has signed a five-year lease. While its original outpost in Olmos Park seats the majority of its patrons on an outdoor patio — operating of an “old train car,” it only has space for about five diners indoors — the upcoming location will offer indoor seating for a much larger crowd and even boast a drive-thru.
For readers who are unfamiliar with Krazy Katsu, the business began in 2020, when Jessica and her husband Phillip Gonyea began making Japanese cuisine-inspired chicken sandwiches for their friends during the pandemic. As orders increased, the couple decided they would “either have to shut it down or open a restaurant,” as Jessica put it. Luckily for San Antonio bellies, the pair chose the latter.
Since then, the Gonyeas have developed a menu that includes pandan smash burgers, panko-breaded chicken sandwiches, and kimchi fries, in addition to specialty items that rotate monthly. Krazy Katsu also offers alcoholic beverages such as boozy lychee frozé, mimosas, wine, and beer.
