According to a recently submitted permit application, Makirrito Sushi — a dining concept developed by the entrepreneurs behind the restaurant group Hugo’s Sushi — plans to open a location in North San Antonio.
Coming to 103 Waxwood Lane, the eatery will land near establishments such as the comic book store Alien Worlds, the restaurant China King Buffet, and the Mexican food eatery Oblate Cafe.
What Now San Antonio spoke with the concept’s co-owner, Jairo Gonzalez; however, we could not gather additional information before publication.
Nevertheless, the filing reveals that the finish-out of the 1,372 square-foot space is scheduled to begin on October 1 and to be completed on May 1, 2026. For an estimated $150,000, local firm Architaktos Architecture & Design will oversee the project.
As reported by What Now San Antonio back in June, according to Culture Map San Antonio, Makirrito is also gearing up to open at the upcoming San Antonio shopping center, Portico at Shaenfield Ranch, at 7807 W Loop 1604 N. What the menu will offer has not been announced yet, nor have opening dates for either location.
For readers who are unfamiliar with Hugo’s Sushi, the restaurant describes itself as “a great place to eat sushi, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean food.” Located at 7627 Culebra Road, Suites 107 and 108 — near Dunkin’ Donuts, Empanadas y Arepas JOVI, Umberto’s Italian Grill — it is a “proudly Latino-owned business,” per its Instagram bio.
