Golden Chick, a quick-serve restaurant franchise known for its fried chicken, is expanding in San Antonio — planning to build a new location on Talley Road.

According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration, the chain is eyeing a lot near Country Oaks Mobile Home Park, CubeSmart Self Storage, and Stonebridge Baptist Church.

What Now San Antonio reached out to the upcoming outpost’s franchisee, Allen Tharp — also the owner of British restaurant and pub The Lion & Rose — but he could not provide additional information before publication.

Nevertheless, the permit application provides further insight — disclosing that construction of the 2,052-square-foot restaurant will begin this October and be completed in March 2024. For an estimated $1,100,000, the job will be executed by the San Antonio-based firm Legg Architecture.

Since Golden Chick, formerly known as Golden Fried Chicken, was opened by Howard and Jacque Walker in San Marcos in 1967, it has become “one of the fastest growing restaurant brands in the U.S. and was recognized as one of the very top brands in the country by Nation’s Restaurant News,” according to the eatery’s website.

On the menu, patrons can expect to find fried chicken, breaded chicken tenders served with gravy for dipping, warm yeast rolls, and sweet tea to wash it all down.
