Playa Bowls, which offers açai bowls, is opening a new location. According to a recent state filing, the fruity eatery is set to open at 12922 Potranco Road #124 in the Reid Ranch Shopping Center.
What Now San Antonio spoke with one of the four franchisees behind the opening, Dipesh Patel, who confirmed that the Playa Bowls in Reid Ranch is expected to open in the next few months. The permit shows that construction is slated to start at the beginning of the year and wrap near the end of April 2026.
Patel shared that he, his wife Amanda, and his neighbors, all of whom are veterans, opened their first Playa Bowls Med Center off of Fredericksburg Road in March with the intention of providing a healthy option to the community they love.
“We’re excited about providing healthy options for the community. There really isn’t anything that in San Antonio or it’s rare to find,” Patel said.
Now the group of franchisees is not only embarking on opening the Reid Ranch location, but two others as well in the near future.
“We’re happy to bring that beach 15-minute vacation vibe to San Antonio,” Patel said.
The founders of the Playa Bowls chain are Robert Giuliani & Abby Taylor in New Jersey in 2014. Both Guilani and Taylor are Jersey Shore natives & long-time surfers. There are now 300 Playa Bowls shops nationwide.
Patel and his partners are on the way to opening three more for the brand.
Playa Bowls offers not only bowls, but also smoothies, juices, and cold brews. But their açai bowls are the bedrock of the brand.
“We pride ourselves on our acai because we think it’s the purest acai on the market out there,” Patel said.
There are no additives; organic cane sugar is the substitute that’s used to make it sweet. Patel shared that it’s akin to blueberries mixed with chocolate.
San Antonians near Reid Ranch can try it for themselves when Patel and his band of franchisees open their new location at 12922 Potranco Road #124 around May of 2026.
