Popeyes is the next restaurant set to take flight at the San Antonio International Airport (SAT). According to a recently filed state permit, the new Popeyes is expected to open at 9800 Airport Blvd. TB-FC1 in Terminal B of SAT.
The permit details that construction on the new Louisiana-born fried chicken joint is slated to start this February and wrap up by mid-June 2026. Although those dates are subject to change, travelers can expect to get their Louisiana fried chicken fix in the Lone Star State airport before Summer.
Popeyes has experienced somewhat of a growth in the area, with the Dhani Group, a franchise empire, leading the charge.
Popeyes was founded in New Orleans in 1972 by Alvin C. Copeland. By 1976, the brand began to franchise and quickly expand. Almost ten years ago, Popeyes was acquired by Restaurant Brands International, the parent company of Burger King and Tim Hortons.
There are now more than 4,000 Popeyes locations around the world, with an aim to grow that number to more than 4,200 in the US and Canada by 2028. There are already nearly 450 Popeyes eateries throughout Texas, with more than 50 in the Alamo City.
SAT is currently undergoing a $1.2 billion expansion, which includes a new terminal being built near Terminal B that’s expected to be completed around 2028.
With a focus on the post-security food court in Terminal B, SAT officials have curated a mix of dining concepts from HMS Host. Popeyes joins local concepts 2M BBq, The Tasting Room, and Bakey Lorraine as confirmed additional to Terminal B concessions.
With its opening, travelers can expect the same menu Popeyes has been known and loved for. While it’s all about the cajun fried chicken the brand is known for frying up and serving, it is perhaps the fried chicken sandwich that continues to be all the rage at Popeyes throughout the world.
The new Popeyes is expected to open at 9800 Airport Blvd. TB-FC1 in Terminal B of SAT by Summer 2026.
