Known for its vibrant setting and homestyle Mexican fare, Cascabel Mexican Patio bid farewell after 22 years in Southtown. The popular Mexican food establishment at 1000 S Saint Mary’s St. announced its closure through a Facebook post on July 23. No reason was given for the sudden closure.

The post read, “One last look at goodbye.. It’s been an AMAZING 22 years serving up great food, family recipes, awards, and countless smiling faces. Thank you to each and every one who came in and loved the food, even if we’re were outside of your comfort zone, thank you for stopping in and seeing the amazing art.”

Cascabel’s owners added in the post that they would keep the Facebook page open and continue sharing recipes. The owners said they plan to stay connected with the community by sharing recipes and updates through the page.

The restaurant opened in the early 2000s, earning a following for its homestyle Mexican dishes. The spotlight was on items like cascabel eggs, chilaquiles, and fideo & posole. Over the years, the eatery became known for its vibrant, colorful decor.
