According to a recently submitted permit application, Portillo’s Hot Dogs — a chain known for its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, and cake shakes — plans to debut a new outpost in Schertz.
“There is nothing close to it in the area,” Schertz Mayor Ralph Gutierrez tells MySA. He continues, “This new eatery is going to be a boost for our area.”
For readers who are unfamiliar with Portillo’s, the eatery’s website offers a brief introduction: “In 1963, Dick Portillo invested $1,100 into a small trailer to open the first Portillo’s hot dog stand in Villa Park, IL, which he called ‘The Dog House.’ Years later, Portillo’s has become a brand synonymous with Chicago.”
“We’re known for our famous Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, chopped salad, cheese fries, homemade chocolate cake, and chocolate cake shake,” the statement continues.
What Now San Antonio reached out to Marc Miller, the Vice President of Operations at Portillo’s Hot Dogs, but he could not provide additional information before publication. An address has not been announced yet.
Portillo’s in Schertz is slated to open in the summer of 2025. Stay tuned for updates.
