According to a recently filed liquor license, an entity by the name of “The Rose of San Antonio LLC” will be the newest tenant at the former home of Maddy McMurphy’s Irish Sports Bar at 420 E Houston St. near the San Antonio Riverwalk.

Ownership of the LLC is linked to Sarah Hartman of River Rose Tavern in Canyon Lake. Although it’s unconfirmed if the spot will become a second location of River Rose Tavern or another sister establishment, it’s clear the incoming restaurant will be poised for great business and foot traffic in the location.

It’s likely the new spot may open in a few weeks given the status of the liquor license filed mid-December, and that the second-generation site won’t require much construction for the new business to move in. Maddy McMurphy’s Irish Sports Bar closed for business in September, according to an Instagram announcement.

River Rose Tavern seemingly opened in 2019 and is known by the community for having a robust happy hour menu, a dog friendly patio, and a family-friendly atmosphere. The business offers a variety of classic American bar food such as nachos, cheese curds, hummus, salads, chicken sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks, and a full bar menu.

Though some of the details regarding the incoming concept at 420 E Houston St. have not been formally revealed, San Antonians can anticipate the new hangout spot to offer great grub and live music very soon. What Now San Antonio reached out to River Rose Tavern ownership for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
