Potbelli BBQ & Catering in San Antonio announced closure, citing financial challenges and slow customer traffic. Through a social media post, the restaurant shared the news, though the catering service will continue operating.

Potbelli BBQ & Catering in San Antonio to Close Permanently

Potbelli BBQ & Catering LLC, located on E. Commerce Street, is known for its custom smoked meats, briskets, and racks of ribs. The restaurant operates only three days a week for BBQ lunch, serving guests from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Through a social media post, the restaurant shared, “Very, very important information, guys, we are closing our doors! Potbelli BBQ restaurant will be officially closed between 30 and 90 days from now.”

In the Facebook video, Terrence Russell shared that the restaurant will be closing soon as he and his wife take time to discuss its future. Slow foot traffic and ongoing challenges have created uncertainty for the future of the restaurant, raising the possibility of a permanent closure.

The official Instagram post further emphasized this and elaborated, “Although I absolutely love barbecuing and serving barbecue, we just don’t have the customer base to keep it going. We’re trying as hard as we can, and we’ve had some amazing help from a lot of awesome food reviewers. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for us to sustain keeping our doors open.”

Fans’ Reaction on Social Media

After the news of the restaurant closure, the online community offered support and encouragement and shared heartfelt messages. Many expressed best wishes for the future, hoping the beloved spot can overcome its challenges.

One fan wrote, “I can’t imagine how hard it is to open a restaurant in this economy, but I’m rooting for y’all.”

Another customer wrote, “Sorry to hear this—your food is amazing. I will admit that the location was a bit out of my way to get to on a frequent basis during the lunch hour, and I wished that your location was more central. But I get it—it takes so much of your time and energy to keep a restaurant running. I hope to see y’all do pop-up services every now and then—check out Jaime’s Place on West Commerce. They bring in pitmasters to sell BBQ on the weekends, plus, they host many private parties that need catering services. Best of luck to y’all!”

Potbelli BBQ will close its restaurant but will keep catering. If foot traffic and sales don’t improve, permanent closure could follow.
