Cheba Hut, an Arizona-based subs franchise, is opening a new location at 2907 N. Loop 1604 E. As a part of a three-unit franchising deal, franchisees Steve Bales and Bria Lattimore plan to open a second Cheba Hut location sometime this fall. The standalone structure will cover an impressive 2,688-square-foot area, and make its home in the far north side.
“We’ve been very happy at our first location,” says Steve Bales, a partner of the venture. “We’ve got good food and good customer service.”
Bales are Lattimore are still in the process of reviewing construction bids, but hope to have the new restaurant operational by early fall or late this summer.
San Antonio locals got their first taste of the chain’s “toasted” subs in 2021, when Bales and Lattimore opened up shop at 11911 Alamo Ranch Pkwy. The marijuana-themed restaurant has a strong counter-culture identity, and has been well-received by San Antonio locals.
When it comes to their menu, Cheba Hut offers variety of sandwiches and “cottonmouth cures” that include sweet drinks, local beers, and energy drinks. Cheba Hut locations also offer a roster of cocktails and a “munchies” selection complete with loaded nachos and pretzel nuggets.
Bales says their Kali Mist—a spin on a spicy club— and White Widow—a chicken-based option—are the most popular.
“We’re excited to be a part of the new construction, and we feel like there’s definitely a need for restaurants in the area,” Bales says.
