Slim Chickens Hatching Ten Outposts in Alamo City

"We offer a little bit of everything, you know, really good tenders, wings, and sandwiches. I always love Canes and Chick-fil-A, but we're kind of bringing all of it under one roof, so we're excited," shares the franchisee.

According to the San Antonio Business Journal, popular Arkansas-based fried chicken franchise Slim Chickens is enlarging its San Antonio footprint, gearing up to debut a new location — the first of many destined for the city — on June 6.

Coming to 7022 N 1604 East, the outpost will land near establishments such as Dutch Bros Coffee, Jim’s Restaurants, and Wendy’s.

What Now San Antonio reached out to Franchisee Dan McGrath of Big Star Chicken LLC to inquire about his plans for the upcoming spot, but he could not provide additional information before publication.

Nevertheless, McGrath tells the Journal, “I came across this brand in 2021 and just love the product… I love the people, love the southern hospitality. And you know, we started looking around and realized we didn’t have any of them in Austin or San Antonio, so I signed with these guys to do 20 of them.”

Thanks to the San Antonio Business Journal, it has recently become clear that ten of the 20 forthcoming outposts mentioned will be located in the San Antonio area and are set to begin opening in 2025.

“We offer a little bit of everything, you know, really good tenders, wings, and sandwiches. I always love Canes and Chick-fil-A, but we’re kind of bringing all of it under one roof, so we’re excited,” McGrath elaborates.

For readers who are unfamiliar with the business, Slim Chickens offers a brief introduction on its website: “Our mission was (and is) simple: to make the best hand-breaded chicken tenders using only the freshest ingredients, served in a friendly atmosphere where people can relax and feel at home.”

In addition to chicken tenders, the Slim Chickens menu boasts chicken sandwiches, wraps, and salads, as well as sides including macaroni and cheese, fries, and potato salad.

Stay tuned for updates on addresses and opening dates.
