Smoothie King is continuing to expand in San Antonio, this time with the help of a franchisee husband and wife team. According to a recently filed permit, Liz and Rey Rodriguez are set to open a new Smoothie King at 15489 Culebra Rd – Suite 209.
What Now San Antonio spoke to the pair of franchisees about the new smoothie shop coming to Culebra Road, who shared that they expect to open the new Smoothie King in February or March of next year.
“We’re excited to serve that side of the community,” Rodriguez said.
“We really believe in the brand and what it brings to your body.”
This is the second Smoothie King location for the Rodriguez couple, who also serve Smoothie King drinks from a mobile cart.
Besides the Rodriguez husband and wife duo becoming Smoothie King franchisees, Smoothie King has continued to boom and bring in more franchisees throughout the country. Smoothie King first opened in 1973. Steve Kuhnau opened the first health food store in New Orleans to create healthier versions of his own smoothies, which were initially for personal health reasons. The company became a franchise in 1989. In 2012, Wan Kim, who had previously brought the brand to South Korea, bought the company from the Kuhnaus.
There are more than 1,300 locations worldwide, and nearly 150 Smoothie King locations in Texas.
“Both Rey and I really believe in the clean blends, which is the core of Smoothie King. All real fruits and veggies, no artificial colors or flavors, and no high fructose corn syrups in any of our smoothie blends,” Liz said.
Smoothie King serves food, bowls, and smoothies, offering a variety of loaded toasts, protein boxes, smoothie bowls like the Go Coconuts Bowl, and a plethora of smoothies to get your day going and feeling healthy.
