According to a recently submitted alcohol license application, the international chain Taco Bell is expanding its footprint in San Antonio — preparing to debut a new outpost on the city’s north side.
Coming to 1250 Blanco Road, the eatery will land just south of establishments such as Bright Coffee, the Mexican food restaurant Blanco Cafe, and Julia’s Bistro & Bar.
What Now San Antonio reached out to representatives at the outpost’s operator, Desert de Oro Foods, to learn more about their plans for the upcoming location; however, additional information could not be gathered before the time of publication.
Nevertheless, the filing reveals that the remodeling of the existing 2,877 square-foot space is scheduled to begin on October 1 and to be completed on February 28, 2026. Local firm Charles William Pope and Associates will carry out the project for an estimated $500,000.
While many readers are familiar with the international chain’s menu, its history is less well known.
Founded in 1962 by Glen Bell in Downey, California, Taco Bell began franchising in 1964 in Orange County. By 1967, there were already 100 outposts and, by 2020, Taco Bell was serving “more than 2 billion customers each year at over 7,000 restaurants,” according to its website. Today, the company operates in at least 25 countries, and there are over 8,000 Taco Bell locations worldwide.
While the dining concept began by serving crunchy tacos — or what Bell’s customers called “tay-kohs,” per the Taco Bell website — gorditas were introduced to the permanent menu in 1998, the Crunchwrap Supreme in 2005, and the specials of September 2025 include Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos, Milk Bar Birthday Cake Churros, a chili cheese burrito, and Double Decker Tacos.
