Tacos Chulos is bringing the Cali love to San Antonio with a debut at the La Picosa Town Center at Brooks City Place. The beloved West Coast eatery is expected to open amongst three other new eateries: La Carniceria, Amores de Julia, and Mariscos el Riqui. All of which recently filed permits with project details on the same day, all with projected openings in mid-2026.
According to the recently filed permit for the new La Picosa Town Center Tacos Chulos, the new eatery will open its doors at 7514 S. New Braunfels, Suite D. Construction is slated to start at the beginning of 2026 and wrap up at the start of May 2026. If all goes well with the $200,000 construction project, the 2,158 square foot new Tacos Chulos should be open in May 2026.
According to Culture Map, three of the quartet of new restaurants to come to the La Piscoa Town Center have connections to popular California-based concepts, except for Mariscos El Riqui, which appears to be connected to a concept in Tijuana.
Tacos Los Cholos, also commonly referred to as Tacos Chulos, has grown to fame in California for its offerings. Its extensive menu includes a variety of premium meats like chorizo, pork belly, and filet mignon, which can be added to tacos, of course, but also bowls, mulitas, salads, burritos, and more. And yes, there is a secret menu (shh, don’t tell anyone.)
What Now Orange County recently reported on the taco brands’ expansion out of Southern California. Josue Maldonado and Michael Alvarado founded the growing taco chain in Anaheim in 2019 in a front yard with “no money but pockets full of dreams”, according to a throwback Facebook post. Since then, the brand has continued to grow and expand.
What Now San Antonio reached out to the founder for details on the new opening, but did not hear back by the time of this publication.
But, with the opening not too far, I’m sure more details about the exciting addition to the La Picosa Town Center will be revealed. Tacos Chulos is expected to debut in the La Picosa Town Center at Brooks City Place at 7514 S. New Braunfels, Suite D, in May 2026.
