According to MySA, the Los Angeles-based Mexican food restaurant Trejo’s Tacos — founded by the actor Danny Trejo, well-known for his roles in Breaking Bad and as the voice of Stronghold in Minions: The Rise of Gru — is looking toward San Antonio.
After sitting on a panel at a horror convention in June, event organizers shared a video on Facebook in which an interviewer inquired of Trejo, “Do you plan to open any restaurants in San Antonio?”
To which he replied, “You know what? Yes. We are trying to figure out where, the locations and stuff.”
He compares it to the capital city, sharing, “[Austin is] different. It’s different than San Antonio. In San Antonio, people go out to dinner and go out to eat and stuff. In Austin, there’s only Sixth Street — you go out to get drunk. I love Austin, don’t get me wrong, but it’s more of a party.”
What Now San Antonio reached out to the Director of Administration and Special Events at Trejo’s Tacos to inquire about the business’s expansion plans, but she could not provide additional information before publication.
Nevertheless, the concept’s website offers a glimpse into how the business was founded, sharing, “For Danny, food has always played an important role and accounted for many of his most positive memories. From cooking with his mom, to family dinners with his kids, on-set meals with new and old friends, and of course, the immediate visit to his local taco shop whenever he got released from a prison stay (Danny doesn’t think prison food is that good).”
“In 2015, while filming the movie Bad Ass, the producer asked Danny if he would partner with him in the restaurant business. The answer was a big ‘Hell yes’,” the statement continues.
Stay tuned for updates.
