According to a recently submitted permit application, Southern burger chain Whataburger is building a new outpost in San Antonio.

Coming to 6311 Old Pearsall Road, the fast-casual eatery will land near establishments such as Little Caesars Pizza, Mi Tequila Jalisco, and Pollos Asados Don José.

What Now San Antonio reached out to Whataburger to inquire about the company’s expansion in the Alamo City, but a representative could not provide additional information in time for publication.

Nevertheless, the filing reveals that construction of the 2,816-square-foot spot with a drive-thru is slated to begin on February 16, 2026, and finish on June 15. Costing an estimated $1,280,500, the project will be managed by Houston-based firm Castles Design Group.

For readers who aren’t familiar with the company’s history, Whataburger offers a brief overview on its website: “On August 8, 1950, an adventurous and determined entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson opened up the world’s first Whataburger on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi, Texas. He had a simple goal: to serve a burger so big it took two hands to hold and so good that after one bite, customers would say, ‘What a burger!'”

Now, the chain boasts “more than 1,100 Whataburger restaurants across 16 states stretching from Las Vegas to the Carolinas.”

An opening date has not been announced yet. Stay tuned for updates.
