Ray’s World Famous Chili Burgers currently sits on 9911 I-35 Frontage Rd. The man behind the recently built new San Antonio eatery, Ted Baker, is already looking for staff to help pump out its burgers, according to this recent Craigslist post. But the post is calling for staff for a Wing Stop. So the question is, what is Baker up to?

What Now San Antonio reached out to Baker after coming across the job listing in hopes of getting to the bottom of the plan for the mysterious blue building that sits on North 1H 35. The eccentric restaurateur shared his hopes and dreams for the establishment that he plans to, hopefully, open before the end of 2026.

A California-born entrepreneur, Baker shared that he built Ray’s World Famous Chili Burgers as a callback to LA’s famous Tommy’s Burger. Anyone who has ever lived or visited Los Angeles knows about the chili burger food chain and its offerings. Baker intends to build a similar brand with a focus on quality chili burgers, no variations, much like at In-N-Out. To accompany the hearty standalone dish, Baker aspires to serve up and dish out fries, of course. The plan is to fry them in lard and cut them fresh every day at each store.

Along this culinary venture, Baker said he was sidetracked. After visiting, a local Wing Stop, he realized maybe wings are better than burgers to mass-produce and sell.

“I built a burger spot, but that’s going to cost more to open, and I can’t open them just as fast,” Baker said.

Through his brand, the Cali group, Baker has forayed into a variety of food and beverage operations, including restaurant repair. But his heart has been and is set on opening a dining experience that is not only memorable and enjoyable but quick.

“We want to make sure that service at our place is just like Raising Cane’s, it’s less than two minutes to get whatever food you want,” Baker said.

The restaurant that currently stands on I-35 Frontage Rd will have a double drive-thru and two walk-up windows, making it easy for people to get in and get out with purchased food in hand.

While the concept is on shaky grounds as of this month, the mouthwatering description that sums up the cornerstone of Ray’s World Famous Chili Burgers could stand the test of time. But time is of the essence.
