In a routine health inspection conducted on Monday at the restaurant, multiple food safety lapses were noted:
- Food employees lacked food handler training certification
- Proper hot and cold holding temperatures of potentially hazardous foods were not maintained
- Evidence of vermin activity was observed during the inspection; the facility lacked vermin-proofing and exclusion measures
- Lack of hot water in the sinks in the facility
- Food items were not kept separated and protected from cross-contamination
- Nonfood contact surfaces were not clean and sanitized
- The warewashing sink lacked plugs and stoppers
- The premises were not vermin-proof, and the employees were not following the exclusion measures.
Mama Antonia’s Restaurant

Mama Antonia’s is a Mexican restaurant in San Diego offering tacos, burritos, and other traditional dishes. However, Mama Antonio’s outlet could not pass a recent health inspection.
The inspection findings suggested that multiple procedures were not in compliance, and the violations are listed here:
- Food employees were not following the proper handwashing procedures
- Food handler certification was missing at the time of inspection
- Live insects and rodent activity were observed during the inspection
- Nonfood contact surfaces, like a deep fryer, had grease accumulation
- All equipment and utensils need to be stored in a clean place and free from the risk of contamination
- The facility lacked adequate exhaust ventilation.
The health department ordered temporary closures at both restaurants. Operations may resume following correction of all cited violations and a reinspection.
