Solunto Ristorante & Bakery is located in Little Italy in San Diego. It is an Italian restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. From freshly baked bread and pizzas to gelato, people love to visit the restaurant for Italian delicacies. On Monday, the restaurant underwent a routine health inspection and failed.
Observations that Led to Health Inspection Failure
As imminent violations were found at the outlet, it had to close. The closure was primarily due to a vermin infestation. Live animals, insects, and rodents could be the biggest source of cross-contamination.
The inspecting officer also observed a minor violation regarding unclean food contact surfaces. The utensils were visibly soiled with accumulated residue. Food items were not stored at a minimum height of 6 inches off the floor.
The officer also noticed violations of good retail practices, such as the use of unapproved equipment or utensils. A leaking faucet was observed, and a backflow prevention device was missing. There was a damaged wall behind a sink and a wall in the food preparation area with accumulated dried food debris. Vermin-proofing of different entry points was also inaccurate.
As the violations found at the restaurant can lead to health hazards, the restaurant has to be more responsible in following the safety code. Health officials have not yet scheduled a follow-up inspection at the Solunto Ristorante & Bakery.
