Located at 3401 Monroe St, Carlsbad, CA 92008, the Monroe Street Pool was constructed in 1982. The Carlsbad City Council approved the renovation and replacement project for the pool. After 40 years of service, the pool will remain closed for around 18 months.

When the concerned authorities identified that the pool needed some changes, they developed potential design options and presented them to the public for feedback in 2020. After continuous reviews, in January 2025, a $14,126,653 budget is approved for construction by Edwards Construction Group, and a $563,800 agreement with Cumming Management Group to oversee and inspect the construction work.

The project is expected to be completed by 2026. The new pool will feature:

  • A larger area with 50% more lanes
  • An 8-foot wall for sound reduction, along with metal gates
  • Renovated and expanded locker rooms, pool deck, and outdoor showers
  • A larger parking space, more shades, and bleachers
  • Redesigned lobby and small gathering area
  • Replacement of pool equipment and better storage space for them
  • Replacement of existing water heating system and installation of solar panels to promote sustainable energy.

What to Expect During Construction

Residents near the pool area may have to face some inconvenience due to noise from renovation work. Construction vehicle traffic may pose issues during working hours. However, the authorities are trying to minimize the inconvenience.

To keep people updated, it has been issued that the construction will take place from Monday to Friday from 7 am to 4 pm. Occasionally, work may progress on Saturdays as well.

From March 31 onwards, pool membership will be discontinued. Any remaining dues will be refunded to the people. Alga Norte Aquatic Center will be open to people, while Monroe Street Pool will be closed. Interested people can contact them for membership and more information.
