The King’s Craft Coffee Company (TKC) is known for building community around a cup of coffee. There are two shops in San Diego, Poway and Mission Valley. On Monday, the Poway outlet underwent a routine health inspection.
Inspectors noted that food was being held at improper temperatures, ranging from 130-134°F and 42-50°F. Inspectors found that an employee had not yet obtained the required food handler certification. There was a lack of warm water at the hand sink, a lack of hot water at the prep sink, and a janitorial sink.
The major violations observed during the inspection were vermin infestation and unsafe food conditions. Inspectors emphasized that food should not contain unsafe or unapproved additives or colors. The facility must undergo vermin-proofing, and food employees should avoid caring for or handling animals or pets.
As per inspection findings, non-food contact surfaces were not clean. Utensil washing facilities were not maintained within the facility. Equipment and utensils were not stored in a separate, contamination-free room.
Inspectors observed a refrigerator holding food items without a working thermometer or a probe thermometer that is not calibrated. Inspectors also noted broken floor tiles and a damaged wall behind a sink.
The inspectors ordered the shop to close temporarily and address all the violations. A follow-up inspection might take place to ensure compliance with county health standards.
