Health Inspections Lead to Closure of Two San Diego Food Outlets
A donut shop and an ice cream shop had to cease operations in San Diego as the Department of Environmental Health and Quality found safety lapses at the outlets during the health inspections. On Monday, this health inspection was conducted at various restaurants where these two outlets could not pass.

Located in Chula Vista, Sunny Donuts offers a selection of donuts and drinks. A routine inspection at the outlet on Monday revealed non-compliance with food safety standards, and the restaurant had to close.
Vermin infestation was the major violation observed during the inspection. There was a lack of hot water availability throughout the facility. The outlet did not comply with the standard washing facility requirements.
The inspecting officer observed that the condition of the floors, walls, and ceiling needs to be taken care of, and the premises need deep cleaning. The inspector instructed the staff to make the facility vermin-proof to avoid the entry of any live animals within the premises.

Tropi Frutas is a go-to place for people of San Ysidro to get ice cream, juice, sandwiches, tortas, and escamocha. On May 5, a routine inspection and then a reinspection were done at the outlet. Initially, there were minor and out-of-compliance violations at the ice cream shop, which were corrected on site, and it passed the inspection with an A grade.
However, a reinspection on the same day led to the closure of the facility. The shop failed to fix the issue of the availability of hot and cold water within the facility. An adequate, protected, pressurized, potable supply of hot water and cold water shall be provided at all times from an approved water system. So, the shop has to remain closed until this requirement is fulfilled.
The violations were found at food establishments that are popular in their neighborhoods. Ongoing compliance from food businesses helps ensure public health and safety.
