Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center Brings a 22-Story Hotel
Marking a significant addition to the local real estate landscape of Chula Vista, a two-million-square-foot resort and convention center project opens in the city. Located near downtown San Diego, Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center comes with a 22-story hotel, which has 1,600 rooms.
Apart from this, an 800,000 sq. ft. convention center has been developed through the project. Additional amenities include a nine-story parking structure, a 4.25-acre waterpark, and eateries.
Chula Vista’s Collaborative Development Project
The newest resort and convention center development in Chula Vista is the result of a joint partnership. Developer Gaylord Hotels and Marriott International teamed up with the RIDA Development Corporation. On the other hand, construction was managed by McCarthy Building Co. and M.A. Mortenson together.
Marriott International, HKS Architecture, the Port of San Diego, and the City of Chula Vista also played key roles in bringing the project to fruition.
Officials of all the organizations gathered recently for the groundbreaking of the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center at 1000 H St. in Chula Vista. During the ceremony, officials noted that the project was completed in just 34 months and that it would uplift Chula Vista’s tourism.
Remodeling a Retail Hub Also in the Works
John McCann, Chula Vista’s mayor, clarified that more project ideas apart from the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center are in the pipeline. This includes a 35-acre Bayfront project south of the latest Chula Vista development.
Additionally, a complete upgrade in the area near downtown San Diego would include revamping a 500,000 sq. ft. local retail hub. McCann added that fine dining and housing units will also be developed in the Chula Vista location.
A Decade-Plus Effort to Meet its Conclusion
While the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center may have been completed in 34 months, the actual work started way before.
The California Coastal Commission had given its nod for Chula Vista’s plans to come with a resort and development complex along the Bayfront in 2012. Six years later, the City of Chula Vista joined hands with the Port of San Diego to approve the agreement with Gaylord.
The Road Ahead for Chula Vista
The Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center is expected to be a key addition to the region with its amenities and infrastructure. This would, in turn, push Chula Vista’s growth as California’s tourist spot.
