The Lafayette Hotel has called San Diego home since 1946 and after developer JCG completed a $6 million renovation in 2011, the iconic hotel appears to be in new hands now.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that The Lafayette Hotel Swim Club & Bungalow was in escrow in Feb., to be purchased by Consortium Holdings projects.
The well-known San Diego restaurant group has watering holes and dining spots across town including, Born and Raised, at 1909 India St., Ironside Fish & Oyster in Little Italy and Raised by Wolves in Westfield UTC.
SanDiegoVille reported this week that CH’s purchase of the iconic hotel has been finalized and with the help of corporate chef and parter Jason McLeod is expected to make changes to the onsite food options.
McLeod posted a photo onto Instagram referencing The Lafayette Hotel and saying “(things) are about to get real,” and that hopefully they “won’t (mess) this up.”
Attempts to reach out to Consortium Holdings partners Marshall Stanton and Arsalun Tafazoli were not responded to prior to publication.
The Layafette Hotel was reportedly a thoroughfare for celebrities to San Diego in the 40s and 50s. With rooms and suites that include TVs and free Wi-Fi, nine event venues with 15,000 sq. feet of flexible meeting spaces, and the Weissmuller Olympic Pool, the hotel has stood the test of time.
In the heart of San Diego’s North Park neighborhood, the San Diego Airport is five minutes away and Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo are just around the corner.
