7 Leaves Cafe, an Orange County-based chain with locations found throughout California, Texas, and more, is opening a new site in City Heights at 4460 University Ave.

A few years ago, there were rumors that 7 Leaves Cafe was coming to the vacant space that was the former home of an old recycling center on University and Highland Ave. Now, the chain is getting closer, recently applying for a permit from the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality. This will be the first 7 Leaves Cafe in San Diego, with dozens of locations already in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The company also has sites in the Bay Area, Las Vegas, Dallas, and Houston.

There is no exact opening date for this new boba chain, but when it opens, customers can expect a variety of delicious drinks, including house, Vietnamese, and sea cream black coffee. 7 Leaves Cafe also offers a handful of teas, such as Thai tea and milk tea, with plenty of add-ons. For food, the company offers perfectly crafted macarons. Each drink and snack is hand-crafted and made to order to ensure delicious flavors every time.

“With a touch of artistry and tradition, we craft drinks that burst with flavor,” according to the company’s website. “By hand-chopping, peeling, cooking, stirring, and pressing each ingredient, we unlock their natural essence. No artificial flavors or preservatives touch our brews, only the freshest, highest-quality components. This love and care yield a refreshing, delightful drink. From our kitchen – we chop, peel, cook, stir, and press by hand in order to extract real flavors from raw ingredients such as fresh pandan leaves, mung bean, taro root, and passion fruit.”
