Alohana Acai is not only a memorable name, but I’m sure it’s a name you may have seen sprawled across one of its five locations in San Diego County. The sweet treat shoppe is now opening its sixth location in the county at 3763 30th Street, Suite H.
“I’m excited,” owner and operator Pete McAfee tells What Now San Diego. “It’s definitely a lot easier than our last opening.”
According to the Department of Environmental Health and Quality, the storefront is set to open doors at the south side location this year. McAfee tells What Now San Diego that he intends to open doors at the North Park location in November 2025.
He shares that you can expect to see, smell, and, if you’re lucky, taste the same sweet treats Alohana Acia is known for. Featured items include a variety of bowls, smoothies, and coffee drinks.
The eatery announced an expansion into the Riverside County market back in May, after closing the Oceanside store due to leasing issues. Though this is the first location on the southside of San Diego and the sixth in the county, McAfee owns and operates nine locations in total. Their website displays a tenth one coming soon to Dana Point.
This south San Diego location, according to McAfee, will be a simple “turn and key” process. The 30th Street Suite H vacancy was once held by a similar type of establishment.
“It was just a good opportunity because it was already an existing acai bowl and smoothie place,” McAfee said. “So we don’t have to spend a lot of money and a lot of time trying to get it open.”
The 30th Street location was once home to The Northside Shack, which closed all three of its locations earlier this year. The Northside Shack offered customizable acai bowls and a health-focused menu. The beloved eatery closed its doors after ten years of service in the community, leaving the vacancy open to new opportunities.
Now gearing up to bring its tasty sweet treats down South, that is in San Diego County, McAfee is seizing that opportunity and bringing acai bowls back to the location with the opening of Alohana Acai this fall.
“We’re just excited to be down south,” McAfee said.
