American Junkie, a classic American restaurant, bar, and nightclub located in the Gaslamp Quarter, appears to be working on a new location in Pacific Beach at 826-32 Garnet Ave.

The company, led by Joshua Dunn, Joshua Royal, and Mark Buehler, recently submitted a liquor license application to replace Union Kitchen & Tap Pacific Beach. However, none of the owners have been able to confirm this information with What Now San Diego. The trio applied to have the site’s liquor license to be transferred to the new business. Following this line of transferred liquor licenses show all previous tenants of this space, including Union Kitchen, Mary’s Place, and Moondoggies.

If this development proves to be true, it will be another chapter for the space long occupied by Backyard Kitchen & Tap. Union Kitchen & Tap opened this location earlier this year in March, so for it to close so soon would be surprising but not unheard of for Pacific Beach. The area has seen a significant turnover in recent years, with concepts such as Cherryfish replacing Swagyu and Madi moving into the former home of Rubio’s. Hopefully, if these plans come to life, American Junkie and last longer than previous tenants in this space.

American Junkie is a lively sports bar/ nightclub that offers casual bites such as pizza, wings, and tacos, as well as an impressive alcoholic selection with a wide array of beer, cocktails, and wine. Like most sports bars, this concept also has a plethora of TVs around to make for an excellent sports-viewing spot. This concept is a great nightlife spot with plenty of dancing when sports aren’t on. The company also has a location in Hermosa Beach, although it’s unclear whether the same ownership team operates these locations. Nonetheless, both sites feature a welcoming environment that is fun for any event.

“Named after the country it resides in, American Junkie remains true to its name by supporting its nation by utilizing and serving 95% of products made here in the USA,” according to the company’s website. “Particular pieces of American Junkie were built with reclaimed items from US History. American Junkie is the ideal spot for lunch, dinner, and late-night socializing, providing a one-of-a-kind atmosphere, high-quality food, and a large array of beverage options at an affordable price. The beverage menu consists of classic American cocktails, craft beers made in the USA, all-American whiskeys and bourbons, and wines primarily from California vineyards.”
