Come summer, there’s nothing better than an ice cream cone, so it’s great news that Oceanside will soon have it’s very first Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yoghurt, the Ohio-based ice cream shop that’s been producing award-winning ice cream since 1945. In January, we covered the shop’s expansions into San Marcos and Pacific Beach. Now, only a few blocks inland from Oceanside Pier, the franchise’s newest location will sit at the corner of N Coast Highway and Pier View Way.
Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream has leased a first-floor retail space in Suite 228 and will take over the 3,300 square-foot space next month. Per the Handel’s way, you can expect walk-up windows rather than a sit-down or dine-in space.
If you haven’t sampled Handel’s brand ice cream before, you’re in for a treat. The company offers seasonal and year-round flavors for every ice cream palette, including a nod to its Midwest origins with Buckeye, a peanut butter ice cream featuring a fudge ripple and buckeye candy pieces. The shop also scoops sherbets, low-fat yoghurts, as well vegan, fat-free, and no sugar added flavors.
Alice Handel produced the very first scoop of Handel’s ice cream in 1945 to sell in her husband’s gas station. Since then, the company has grown and expanded to multiple states. It offers over 100 flavors of ice cream and has been noted in more than one book as some of the best ice cream in the world.
