Inspired by Nashville, founded in Riverside, and beloved throughout Southern California, Baba’s Chicken will soon be arriving at 406 University Ave. Filling the space left by the departure of Blue Fourno Grill, Baba’s will soon be selling their signature Nashville Hot Chicken in the high-traffic Hillcrest neighborhood.
Baba’s Chicken founder Mahmoud “Mike” Hemood opened their first brick-and-mortar location less than a year ago, and their Costa Mesa branch followed soon after.
The University Ave. storefront will be Baba’s Chicken’s third installment and San Diegans can anticipate a similar menu: spicy, crispy and Halal-friendly fried chicken.
“My parents had a significant impact on my interest in food, and that’s the primary reason I named my brand Baba’s,” Hemood wrote on the company’s website. “I wanted it to reflect the ‘Dad-on-the-Grill’ tradition that we all grew up on.”
Guests will be able to order their chicken at the spicy scale of their choosing, from mild to extreme. The menu will include chicken sandwiches, hot tenders, loaded fries and more. While they have yet to announce an opening date, SanDiegoVille.com reported that the shop will be up and running this Spring.
For now, the restaurant is still making its way through San Diego County’s permit system.
