Bub’s at the Beach finalized service in Pacific Beach at the end of April, marking 25 years in the coastal neighborhood. While bittersweet, the restaurant will continue to operate in the form of Bub’s at the Ballpark. San Diego Magazine shares that Bub’s owner Todd Brown has now handed the Pacific Beach property to The Verant Group for its new concept, Bar Ella.
The Verant Group operates many notable San Diego bars and restaurants around Pacific Beach and the Gaslamp like Mavericks, Barleymash, and The Smoking Gun. Longtime Verant Group team member and Tavern at the Beach General Manager Krista Barrella will lead the charge on the new restaurant.
The menu is still in development but will reportedly include East Coast-style seafood dishes and locally-inspired elements reminiscent of Baja.
Barrella shares with San Diego Magazine that the new concept is expected to offer an elevated dining experience, on par with what is currently becoming more available in the destination neighborhood.
An opening date for Bar Ella is dependent on the permit process with the city but is expected to welcome in guests in Summer 2023. Follow Bar Ella on Instagram for updates.
