Burger Bench, a family-owned restaurant offering fresh, local ingredients in a friendly environment, is getting ready to open a new location in Vista at 230 Main St.

The company’s second location will move into the former home of When Pigs Fly BBQ, according to documents recently submitted to the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality. Derek Loranger, one of the owners of Burger Bench, tells What Now San Diego that, while it’s hard to provide an exact opening date because of many moving parts, the ownership team hope to open the new Burger Bench in early Fall 2024.

“Vista feels like a great neighborhood, and we are excited to be a part of it,” Derek tells What Now San Diego via email. “We’ve already gotten a lot of positive feedback that Vista is ready for us.”

Burger Bench opened in late 2015 in the former Escondido Times-Advocate Newspaper building, built in 1924. Now, the owners are preparing to expand the business for the first time. Derek tells What Now San Diego that the new location will be the same as the Escondido site, offering fresh and local fare with a focus on customer service. The only significant difference between the two locations will be the rotating beer taps and occasional limited-time burgers and shakes.

“Burger Bench is serving up delicious, casual fare in a fun, urban eatery located in the heart of Escondido’s historic downtown,” according to the company’s website. “Using fresh ingredients locally sourced daily, our incredible burgers, salads, tots, and more have an inventive flare… paired with 20+ San Diego craft brews on tap, craft soda, local wines, or a variety of crazy-good shakes. Kid-friendly with a spacious outdoor patio, you’ll love to make this your go-to burger place!”
