Cali Social Cafe, a globally inspired comfort food concept, is set to open in San Diego at 1433 Garnet Avenue.
The company’s new location is set to move into the former home of World Curry, which closed in late 2024 after operating for nearly three decades, according to a recent liquor license application that SanDiegoVille first reported. While an exact opening date has yet to be announced, the restaurant is owned by Archana Sirohi, who also operates Natural Desi Cafe and Catering in Rancho Bernardo.
Cali Social Cafe marks Sirohi’s second venture in San Diego, continuing her focus on global flavors presented with a California sensibility. The Pacific Beach location brings her concept to a walkable and high-traffic area, steps from the beach and surrounded by restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. The business has also secured a Type 41 license to serve beer and wine on-site. Customers can expect a diverse range of dishes, including curry bowls, croissant sandwiches, tikka pasta, and Indo-Chinese specialties, as well as a selection of desserts, mocktails, and a variety of beer and wine options.
World Curry, the former tenant at this address, was founded in 1995 by Momoko and Bruce Jackson and was known for introducing San Diegans to a variety of curries from across Asia. Following Bruce Jackson’s passing in 2022, the restaurant continued under family ownership until its closure in 2024. Cali Social Cafe is now occupying the space, with plans to introduce a new kind of global dining experience to the neighborhood.
Menu offerings include red Thai curry, vindaloo, chilli chicken, veg manchurian, and lamb seekh kebabs. Desserts range from choco lava cake to churros with chocolate sauce. The concept is designed to serve both adventurous eaters and those seeking comfort food.
