The team that brought you The Grass Skirt is now planning an off-shoot location next door to the Pacific Beach tiki bar. Captain’s Quarters will drop anchor in the neighboring spot formerly occupied by Good Time Poke. The project is led by SDCM Restaurant Group in collaboration with design team Davis Ink.
SDCM Restaurant Group also operates Camino Riviera, Kettner Exchange, and The Waverly. Davis Ink Ltd handled the design at The Grass Skirt as well as projects like Wolfies Carousel Bar and Huntress Steakhouse.
According to Eater, the Captain’s Quarters will roll out a gin-forward specialty cocktail menu by Beverage Director Eric Johnson. The group’s Executive Chef Brian Redzikowski leads menu development at all of SDCM’s restaurants.
The bar will be themed out to replicate nautical life aboard an 18th-century ship. I’m imagining less floral prints and more “pirate’s life” but we’ll have to wait and see.
Grand Central, the retail center at 910 Grand Avenue where Captain’s Quarters will call home is under new ownership which plans to complete a full remodel of the late-80s shopping center in 2022.
Captain’s Quarters is projected to open by Summer 2022. Keep updated with all of the SDCM venues on Instagram.
