Beloved local coffee brand Coronado Coffee is expanding with the opening of a new brick-and-mortar cafe in Point Loma at 1180 Rosecrans Street, Unit 101.
Owner Luis Madrid tells What Now San Diego that the new cafe is expected to open in mid-to-early September and will carry over many of the offerings that have made the original location a staple in Coronado. Founded in 1995 and rebranded in 2011, Coronado Coffee has become known for its lattes, juices, refreshers, smoothies, acai bowls, sandwiches, and snacks served out of its Ferry Landing shop.
The Point Loma location will feature a similar menu and is being designed with an emphasis on visual appeal and a welcoming, community-focused environment. Coronado Coffee will continue to operate from its location in Coronado at 1201 1st Street.
Madrid is working closely with his mostly female team to incorporate a thoughtful, balanced design that brings a woman’s perspective to the space. Also joining Madrid in the new venture is Esteban Benitez, a local tattoo artist and business partner, who is contributing to the design and overall concept for the Point Loma cafe. This marks the first time Madrid has brought on a business partner for Coronado Coffee, having independently operated the Coronado location since its inception. Together, Madrid and Benitez aim to create a space that reflects their shared commitment to local connection and creative collaboration.
“We are excited to be a part of the Point Loma community,” Madrid tells What Now San Diego. “We’re always happy to help the community as much as possible. That’s how all of our locations will be.”
Madrid, who also owns neighboring restaurant Lil’ Piggy’s Bar-B-Q, remains deeply involved in community outreach across San Diego. With the opening of Point Loma, Coronado Coffee continues its mission of offering high-quality drinks and food in spaces where both locals and visitors feel at home.
