In bubble tea’s home country of Taiwan, specialty boba shops can be found on nearly every street corner. While our coastal California city has yet to achieve that degree of boba ubiquity, it’s safe to say that San Diego is in the middle of its own bubble tea renaissance.

After successfully establishing a Ding Tea shop near San Diego State University, one franchisee (who wishes to remain unnamed) decided it was time to branch out with an independent location in Fashion Valley.

“The reason I decided to open this one in Fashion Valley is that we wanted to serve everyone,” the franchise owner told What Now San Diego. “So, we’re going to set one up in the heart of San Diego, where anyone can try Ding Tea.”

The upcoming 1,788 square feet location will add some exclusive menu items that you can’t find in other Ding Tea locations, or anywhere in Fashion Valley, for that matter. This will include baked goods, crepes, bubble waffles and ice cream.

In true Taiwanese fashion, Ding Tea focuses on freshly brewed and shaken teas, ranging from green tea with Yakult yogurt and passion fruit seeds, to creamy milk tea with tapioca pearls, red bean or taro toppings.

Fashion Valley’s Ding Tea will open near H&M, independent from the food court. Outdoor patio seating will be made available once the tea shop opens in late summer or early fall of 2021.
