For those San Diegans who’ve grown tired of your typical coffee routine—here’s something worth noting. A new coffee shop is headed to 30th Street, and it promises to ‘blow your mind.’

Saigon Coffee is a local Vietnamese coffee company that’s been around for a few years now. The shop, owned by Tu Duong, has been keeping to farmers markets, hitting the big ones like HillCrest and Ocean Beach.

New developments, however, indicate the coffee shop is looking at a more permanent residence. Permit intel obtained by What Now San Diego indicates Saigon Coffee recently filed an application for 994 30th St. in San Diego. The store space is 852 square-feet in size. We were unable to reach Duong for comment at the time of publication, so we have yet to confirm an opening date for this new brick-and-mortar.

We can, however, tell you all about the drinks Saigon Coffee has to offer. Saigon Coffee’s website shares, “Coffee shops in Saigon are often nothing more than a couple of racks for glasses and some coffee filters located in an alleyway or on the street.  The coffee is rich, delicious and served over ice, just the way we do it here at Saigon Coffee.” The shop’s iced coffee is brewed traditionally through a filter called the Vietnamese Phin, which, though a slow process, creates a very complex cup of coffee, and, according to the shop, “makes the richest most original chocolate-like flavor that you can find.” Following the brewing process, the coffee is poured over ice.

And best news of all—while you wait for Saigon Coffee to open its new doors, individual orders can be accommodated. Visit Saigon Coffee’s website for more information.
