High Seas Bar, a neighborhood-focused bar and lounge, is set to open at 3339 El Cajon Boulevard in Normal Heights.

The new bar will take over the current home of Crickets Pub, which has been serving the Normal Heights area since 1957, according to a recent liquor license application. Owners Tara Reis tells What Now that they purchased Crickets, which she and her husband, Dean, plan to take over in mid-March 2026, and that they will close briefly for renovations. While the exact opening date has not been finalized, the new bar will share the building with Venice Pizza House.

Crickets Pub has been a neighborhood staple for more than 6 decades, offering drinks and a gathering spot for local patrons. The building’s shared space with Venice Pizza House provides a mix of dining and nightlife options in one location, allowing the new owners to build on an established community presence.

High Seas Bar will mark a new chapter for the property, with the Reis couple bringing their own vision to the space. Details on the full menu, drink offerings, or interior updates have not yet been announced.

This will be an excellent landing space for High Seas Bar, given the location’s long history as a neighborhood gathering spot and proximity to established businesses. The combination of a familiar location and new ownership offers Normal Heights residents a fresh opportunity to enjoy a local bar experience.
