Beshay Foods, Inc., a prominent franchisee of Jack in the Box, has submitted a liquor license application for a new restaurant at 299 E San Ysidro Blvd, signaling plans for the brand’s continued expansion in Southern California.
Founded by industry veteran David Beshay, Beshay Foods operates under the umbrella of Beshay Enterprises and is responsible for more than 200 restaurants across the U.S., spanning brands such as Jack in the Box, Denny’s, and Popeyes.
Beshay began his career as a cook and rose through the ranks to become one of Jack in the Box’s largest franchisees, currently owning 211 units of the fast-food chain. He has committed to opening at least 30 more Jack in the Box locations over the next five to eight years. No opening date has been announced yet for the San Ysidro location.
This upcoming San Ysidro location represents part of a larger growth strategy that began in 2021 when Jack in the Box relaunched its franchise development program. The company signed 23 development agreements that year, totaling 111 new stores, and identified growth markets like Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Salt Lake City, and Louisville.
Known for its quirky branding and 24/7 menu, Jack in the Box serves an array of offerings beyond burgers, including tacos, breakfast sandwiches, egg rolls, and shakes. The brand continues to roll out modern prototypes, such as its off-premise-only MK12 design, which cuts development costs and streamlines service through dual-lane drive-thrus and dedicated delivery lanes.
Jack in the Box was founded in 1951 in San Diego when Robert O. Peterson converted his drive-in Oscar’s on El Cajon Boulevard into the first-ever drive-through with a two-way intercom system. The company remains headquartered in San Diego and has grown into a national chain with more than 2200 locations. San Diego itself has the highest number of Jack in the Box restaurants of any city, with around 36 locations.
