Colorful Mexican Restaurant Continues Expansion in Southern California with 12 Locations and Counting

LA based Mexican Restaurant Kalaveras continues their expansion in Southern California with their eye on San Diego next. First up, Kalaveras has secured a space in the heart of Old Town Temecula to introduce their brand. 

The family-run business operates 12 restaurants across LA, Orange County, and San Bernardino County. According to their social media, Kalaveras has another 12 areas scouted including Long Beach, Orange, North Hollywood, and Newport Beach. 

What Now San Diego spoke with Co-Owner and Operator Daniel Brito who shares excitement for Kalaveras entering the San Diego market. Brito’s team is currently working on securing sites in the Gaslamp and La Jolla for their next restaurants. 

Rooted in the celebration of Mexican culture and the tradition of Dia de los Muertos, Kalaveras brings a modern day take on classic dishes and cocktails. Expect colorful interior design, highlighting Mexican artists and entertainers, and lively music to keep the atmosphere playful and welcoming. 

At the bar, you’ll find over 90 different tequilas and Mezcal spirits and signature cocktails like a Horchata Colada and Margarita Flights. Their chef-driven menu is inspired by recipes passed down through generations and elevated to appeal to modern foodies. Some of their signature dishes include Barbacoa and Carnitas Plates, Enchiladas Verdes, Tacos Gobernador, and an exclusive Molcajete.
