Los Angeles-based FurnSaj Bakery & Restaurant is heading to Hillcrest, Owner Mel Succar told What Now San Diego in an email this week. FurnSaj will replace Paxti’s Pizza, at 3888 Fourth Ave., the restaurateur said. An opening is on the books for summer 2021, according to Succar.

The authentic Mediterranean restaurant and bakery — which focuses specifically on Lebanese cuisine — recently debuted an outpost in Calabasas, replacing a Chipotle.

Among FurnSaj’s specialties is its bread that is baked in-house each day, Mediterranean and vegan flatbreads, shawarma, and kabobs on the skewer. San Diegans can expect the same menu as the L.A. outposts Succar said. Scope the menu here.

The family-owned, -run, and -operated business was founded in Granada Hills in 2013. FurnSaj in 2019 opened its Glendora location and now will debut its fourth with the incoming San Diego restaurant. The name, FurnSaj Bakery, references “furn,” which means oven, and “saj,” which is a type of authentic Lebanese bread.
