Little While, a coffee and pastry shop from the creators of Pop Pie Co. and Stella Jean’s, is getting ready to open in San Diego at 3019 Adams Avenue in Normal Heights.

The new concept will take over the former Hawthorn Coffee space, according to San Diego Magazine. Little While, led by co-founder Steven Torres, is expected to open sometime in Fall 2025, aiming for mid-October. When it opens, customers can expect high-quality coffee and globally inspired pastries in a casual cafe setting designed for comfort and connection.

Little While is the latest project from the Sweet & Savory Collective, which has operated Pop Pie Co. and Stella Jean’s since launching in University Heights nearly a decade ago. While the team has incorporated coffee into its existing operations for years, this will be the group’s first dedicated cafe.

The concept draws inspiration from brief, everyday moments and aims to provide a relaxed, community-focused environment. The menu includes a full espresso bar, pourovers, seasonal beverages, and globally influenced options such as kadak chai, matcha, and Thai tea. The team plans to incorporate ingredients such as Chinese sausage, banana ketchup, guava jam, and chile crisp.

The pastry program will be led by Aly Lyng, whose previous roles include Communion and George’s at the Cove, and Justin Gaspar of Hommage Bakehouse. Co-founder Gan Suebsarakham oversees the food menu, with Madyson Hodge serving as culinary operations manager. Coffee operations will be co-led by Torres and Nayton Rosales, with plans to launch their own roastery in the future. Little While Coffee Shop Opening This Fall
