Marugame Udon continues to expand in Southern California, preparing to enter the San Diego market next. The fast-casual chain will bring noodles in a new way to La Jolla’s Westfield UTC Mall this year.

Originating in Japan, Marugame Udon operates 1200 locations globally and debuted with its flagship US restaurant in Waikiki, HI. Marugame now operates 13 US restaurants across LA, Orange County, the Bay Area, Hawaii, and Texas.

Marugame Udon’s Director of Marketing, Kristin Yi, tells What Now San Diego the brand maintains a trajectory for growth in the US, especially in Southern California.

Marugame Udon’s success starts with its noodles; specializing in Sanuki-style Udon noodles, with a uniquely-square shape engineered specifically to compliment its freshly-made soup broths and sauces.

Standout menu items include the Nikutama bowl, featuring their classic Sanuki-style Udon noodles in the Umami-rich B.K. sauce with a soft-boiled egg, plus crowd favorites like the Tonkotsu (a play on a traditional ramen bowl), Beef Gyudon rice bowl with its signature sweet beef recipe, and fresh tempura.

Much like its other restaurants, the new San Diego location will feature a unique mural, cafeteria-style ordering, and an open kitchen where guests can watch the Marugame Udon team prepare fresh food. “Guests are able to experience the comfort of Handcrafted Sanuki-style udon!” Yi shares.

Marugame Udon in San Diego is projected to open by the end of 2023. Visit their website to locate your nearest open Marugame Udon location and download their loyalty app to start building up rewards.
