Mi Pan Bakery, the popular artisan bakery from San Diego, is preparing to open its first brick-and-mortar location in Mission Gorge at 6435 Mission Gorge Road.
The company’s new storefront is set to move into the former home of Grab & Go Subs, with plans for a Summer or Fall 2026 opening. Owner/ Founder Alejandro Gomez tells What Now San Diego that the new space will feature a focused menu centered on exceptional bread, quality coffee, and a limited selection of pastries. The bakery will also host workshops and masterclasses, fostering a community of baking enthusiasts.
Mi Pan Bakery was founded during the pandemic by Alejandro, who taught himself the art of sourdough with no formal training. What started as a passion project quickly grew into a thriving business, gaining recognition for its artisan breads and unique pastries. The Mission Gorge location marks an exciting new chapter as the bakery expands beyond its farmers’ market pop-ups into a permanent location.
The bakery has earned a strong following at local markets, offering signature items like country sourdough and seasonal specialties, as well as standout treats such as their brown butter sourdough chocolate chip cookies, known as “Las Cukies.” Customers can expect the same high-quality, small-batch products that have built Mi Pan’s reputation.
The Mission Gorge location was chosen for its central location and growing community. “It’s accessible, close to many neighborhoods, but still has its own identity,” Gomez tells What Now San Diego. “We love the space’s potential for both production and customer experience.”
Mi Pan Bakery’s commitment to quality, local ingredients, and craftsmanship will be front and center in the new space. With its hands-on approach to baking and community focus, the new storefront promises to be a hub for both great bread and local connections.
“This bakery is truly a dream in the making,” Gomez tells What Now San Diego. “We’ve been building everything from scratch, literally from our garage to now, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from the community. Our goal is to create a space that feels warm, welcoming, and authentic. We can’t wait to open our doors and share it with everyone.”
