Michi Brew Co. is preparing to open its first brick-and-mortar opening in San Marcos, located at 1801 Diamond Street, Suite 101.
This is the latest from Cody Gagnon, a San Diego native who has worked at Karl Strauss Brewing, Mother Earth Brew Co., Pizza Port Brewing, and, most recently, Carlsbad Brewing, according to San Diego Beer News. After years of planning, the North County native is getting ready to open Michi Brew Co. in the former home of Double Peak Brewing, which was put up for sale last year by owner Frank Harton. Michi Brew Co. hopes to open by Spring 2025.
The concept will share Gagnon’s nickname for his wife, Michiko. It will feature a fun Hawaii-themed tiki atmosphere, including an event space called the “Ohana Room.” Michi Brew Co. will offer a diverse selection of beers, and the ownership team will use customer feedback to refine the menu. For food, the concept will serve Hawaiian-inspired dishes and eventually hopes to expand with breakfast options, coffee, and an outdoor patio.
“Double Peak is extremely well put together and had many of my boxes checked as far as space, system, size and ability to expand,” Gagnon tells SD Beer News. “The aesthetics portray natural wood accents that make the transition to my brand much easier. The opportunity to take over an existing brewery only works if the foundation is solid, and Frank has done a great job with that.”
