The Fishery, a popular seafood restaurant in Pacific Beach at 5040 Cass Street, will undergo some changes in the future.
Over the past several years, the restaurant has seen an influx of executive chefs coming and going. Chef Mike Reidy joined The Fishery in 2020 with owners Annemarie Brown-Lorenz and Nick Lorenz to revamp the restaurant before eventually leaving for Callie Restaurant in East Village. After his departure in Spring 2023, The Fishery enlisted Jon Bautisa of Ember & Rye before Elliot Townsend of Cowboy Star took the spot in February.
Now, Reidy is set to return in mid-November as both Executive Chef and Partner, according to Eater San Diego. Townsend will depart from the position next month due to family reasons, leaving Reidy to take on the reins. Before working at Callie, Reidy had experience working at Ironside in Little Italy and the two Michelin-starred Melisse in LA. While immediate changes won’t occur, Reidy tells Eater LA that he is expected to reunite with his old crew, which includes his brother and beverage director Eddie Avila III. Eventually, the new partner and executive chef will add new dishes to The Fishery using techniques he learned at Callie.
A few new menu items aren’t the only changes planned for The Fishery. On top of hiring a few new key team members in addition to Reidy, The Fishery is poised for a remodel later in the future. Brown-Lorenz tells Eater that they plan to renovate a space above the restaurant to serve as a private dining room for wine dinners, chef collaborations, and other special events. It’s unclear when these renovations are expected to occur.
