Sonny’s, a brand new pizza concept from the team behind Madison on Park and Madi, is getting ready to open in University Heights, located at 1728 Madison Avenue.
Previously, What Now San Diego reported that the Madison on Park team was working on a new pizza concept in University Heights, but few details emerged then. Now, more details have been revealed on top of a name for the concept. Sonny’s is set to open in February or March 2025, according to San Diego Magazine. The space will be 3,500 square feet with a 500-square-foot outdoor patio, designed by the same individuals who helped with Madi and Madison on Park, Anna and David Sindelar.
When Sonny’s, owned and operated by Jeffrey Fink and Matt Sieve, opens its doors in the first quarter of next year, customers can expect a welcoming environment resembling 1980s Brooklyn culture. There will be a backyard dining area, a repurposed copper bar, and a handful of vintage TVs. In addition to various food and drink options, including appetizers, salads, entrees, pizzas, and a list of rotating soft-serve specials, Sonny’s will also have an outside grill for more options. As for drinks, Danny Kuehner will design the cocktail program.
This is a massive accomplishment for Fink and Sieve, who have a busy year ahead. On top of Sonny’s, the duo are also getting ready to launch a second location of their brunch-focused concept, Madi, in the former home of Rubio’s in Pacific Beach. That’s not all from the busy business owners. Fink and Sieve are also working on another concept in Hillcrest. Although it was first reported to be a second location of Madi, moving into a vacant building last used by Panera Bread in The Hub Hillcrest Market, it appears this could possibly be another new concept from the duo.
