MOTO Pizza, a West Coast pizza concept known for its thick, flavorful square slices and craft toppings, is opening new locations in San Diego at 550 W Date Street, Suite B, and at UCSD at 2910 La Jolla Village Drive in La Jolla.
The San Diego location is set to open in May 2026, while the UCSD site is scheduled for Fall 2026, according to the company’s website. Both locations will offer dine-in service, outdoor seating, wine and beer, and ice cream. Customers can expect MOTO’s signature thick square slices, inventive toppings, and sides, including Black Garlic Cheezy Bread and rotating MOTO Swirl desserts.
MOTO was founded in West Seattle by Lee Kindell and Nancy Gambin, who pivoted from running a hostel to opening a 500-square-foot pizza space during the pandemic. The brand has expanded across Washington, with locations in Bellevue, Bellingham, Belltown, Edmonds, and West Seattle, in addition to specialty spots at T-Mobile Park and the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
The San Diego and UCSD sites mark the company’s first official locations in San Diego, with another planned for San Clemente. All new upcoming locations will feature a casual, dine-in experience with outdoor seating and a focus on community-driven dining.
MOTO’s menu includes a mix of traditional and inventive pizzas such as The All In, Beef Adobo, Mr Pig, and Plant, with vegan options available for several pies. The restaurant also offers salads, sides, desserts, and beverages, including craft sodas, beer, and wine. The thick-square slices are available in Solo or Shareable sizes, catering to both individual diners and groups.
The company emphasizes community, love, and connection, describing each pie as a way to bring people together. MOTO partners with local food artisans and suppliers for produce, meats, and specialty ingredients, ensuring quality in every dish. The new San Diego and UCSD locations continue the brand’s expansion while staying true to its Seattle roots.
