Mohammed Almahdawi, the chemical engineer-turned-founder and owner of popular food truck Mr. Shawarma is already gearing up to open a second brick-and-mortar location along Garnet Ave in Pacific Beach, having just launched the brand’s flagship physical outpost at 130 South Mollison Ave in El Cajon, according to local media outlet SanDiegoVille. It’s unclear when the new location might open.
A representative of Mr. Shawarma did not immediately return a request for comment.
Mr. Shawarma’s food truck menu includes a slate of reliable Middle Eastern favorites such as beef and chicken shawarma, as well as falafel and a signature Habibi burger. Meanwhile, SanDiegoVille notes that the brick-and-mortar outposts will feature a slightly expanded menu that includes “customizable” Turkish baked potatoes called kumpir.
While physical restaurants doubtlessly mark a new chapter for the mobile business that’s been in operation since 2018, Almahdawi still plans on using the food truck, which can usually be found parked at 3804 Ingraham Street.
